Power Point Created By: Justin Layne

Facts  It has 27 moons  It only completes 1 orbit in 84 years  It has no solid surface because it is made of gas

Facts  It’s atmosphere is made of hydrogen, methane, and helium  It has only been visited by the Voyager 2 spacecraft  It was only a flyby and occurred in 1986  10 additional moons were spotted during this event  p?all_videos&id=92 p?all_videos&id=92

Facts IIt was the first planet discovered by a telescope instead of the naked eye IIt is the 7 th planet from the sun IIt is the 3 rd largest planet in our solar system

Discovery  It was discovered by William Herschel in 1781  He originally wanted to name it “George’s Star”  King George lll awarded him with an annual stipend of 200 pounds

Moons  It has 5 main moons that are large  The other moons are much smaller  The 5 largest moons are Miranda, Titania, Oberon, Umbriel, and Ariel.

 The Titania and Oberon were discovered in 1787  The Ariel and Umbriel were discovered by William Lassell in 1851  John Herschel also discovered some of the moons Moons Continued

Surface  It’s surface area is approximately 8,115,600,000 km2.  A little more than 80% of it’s mass is it’s core  It’s core is mostly made of icy materials.  Most of it’s gases are made of water

Size and Temperature  It’s diameter is 51,500 km or 32,000 miles  The diameter is 4 times larger than Earth’s  It’s temperature is C or ° F  It is the smallest of the gas giants

Features  It has a very faint set of 12 rings  The rings are made of black dust particles and large boulders  It’s greenish blue color is due to light scattering  It’s the only planet with a sideways rotation
