William Herschel discovered Uranus on March 13,1981 on a telescope.
Uranus is named after the Greek God of the Heavens.
In 1997 James Elliot discovered Uranus’s Moons.

It takes Uranus 84 Earth years for it to orbit the sun.

Uranus is 1,787,274,000 miles away from the sun.

The names of some of these moons are
Oberon, Titania, Gray Umbriel, Ariel,
and The smallest one, Miranda.

Before William Herschel discovered Uranus, people believed it was just another star in the sky.
Uranus is also the father of Saturn.
Uranus is the only planet lying on it’s side. Scientists believe that long ago, a object huge as earth struck Uranus so hard that it completely changed it’s rotation.

Did you know that Uranus’s atmosphere is 83% hydrogen, 15% helium and 2% methane.
Some scientists have a theory that underneath all the gas there may be a small piece of solid rock. That theory has not been proven to be true yet.

Saturn was the only known unique planet with rings. That was until 1977 when James Eliot discovered very faint rings on Uranus.
