WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOL Course Selection

Imagine… Being able to eat lunch with your best friends every day

Imagine… Getting extra help from your teachers in the middle of the day

Imagine… Attending a club meeting before you head to English class

Imagine… Having a day off from each of your classes once every four days

Imagine… A break that allows you to read, surf the web, get a workout in, or just some time to relax

A Possible Redesigned High School Schedule We are considering implementing a very different schedule next year that would encourage ALL students to take 8 classes and still have time for lunch everyday. You may have friends at another high school that have a unit lunch or a SMART lunch. Ask them what they think about their schedule! More information on the possibility of this will be shared with students and parents as soon as a final decision can be made for

Tonight is about… Tonight is about… Sharing information to help students and parents select the most appropriate courses for next year. Reviewing timelines and procedures for the course selection process. Celebrating the variety of curricular opportunities WTHS has to offer our students.

“Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up." --Thomas Edison

Things to consider… Students should be enrolled in courses where they are challenged but not overwhelmed. School is not meant to be easy. Success in anything new requires commitment. –Students must be self-advocates. –Parents must be partners in the educational process. –There are many opportunities for students to receive academic and personal/social support at WTHS. School Counselors/Student Assistance Counselors Extra help provided by teachers Team Step Up National Honor Society Tutoring

The Timeline The Timeline A schoolwide assembly was delivered to all students grades 9-11 on January 12 th. Counselors will deliver scheduling presentations for 8 th graders on March 9 th. Counselors begin meeting with students next week: –Grade 11: 2/1 – 2/9 –Grade 10: 2/9 – 2/18 –Grade 9: 2/18 – 2/29 –Grade 8: 3/10 – 3/17

What happens after I meet with my counselor to select my courses for next year? Take your course selection sheet home to discuss with a parent. Return a signed copy to your counselor. Students will receive a “course verification sheet” in HR during the week of April 11 th. Contact your counselor ( is best for rising freshmen) to request a change your course selections.

The Timeline (All Students) April 11 th – Course Verification Sheets April 12 th – Window Opens for Changes May 2 nd – Last day for students to change any course requests. Late August – Students and parents will be notified by the school that access is open to view schedules in powerschool.

Remember… Counselors are available to assist students and parents. Call ext to connect with your child’s counselor. There is a big difference between graduation requirements and college admissions requirements. There will be no changes to course requests after May 2 nd !
