Global warming in the Czech Republic

Since November 2012 we have learned some facts about global warming, about our changing climate... During our second project period we tried to concentrate on this topic and we spent a lot of time by searching for information, taking part in presentations given by experts and making a quiz. Finally we made a presentation containing our results. Take a look at our work

Our project activities on GLOBAL WARMING We had a meeting with Mrs Krzyžanková – a specialist in environmental education. We tried to find out as much as possible about global warming, its causes,... We made a presentation on this topic. We created a quiz for our mates using the data we found in the library, on the internet, in our textbooks, in magazines, in newspapers.

It means that the average temperature of Earth's atmosphere and oceans has been rising. (It started in the late 19th century.) Global warming – this term you can see and hear almost everywhere. But do you know what it means?

It is undeniable that the average temperature around the planet over the last hundred years or so has risen.

Even the average temperature in the Czech Republic has increased.

The average daily temperature in our country at the hight 600 m.a.s.l. is 3.3 degrees Celsius higher.

Why and how is climate changing? Scientists are more than 90% certain that it is primarily caused by increasing concentrations of greenhouses gases produced by human activities (such as the burning of fossil fuels, deforestation.)

Do all the scientists believe this theory? No ! Some claim, that increasing concentrations of greenhouses gases in the atmosphere are not produced by human activities. According to them it is a natural process.

We invited Mrs. Krzyžanková to our school to get to know more about the global warming.

She told us about the greenhouse effect

She told us about the sea currents and temperatures on different places on our planet.

She showed us the present situation, told us about ice melting. We were shown also the future map of our world – when glaciers would melt down.

We learned that polar bears are in danger because of the increasing temperature of our planet.

Now we know that in the Czech Republic transport and accommodation are the biggest producers of greenhouse gases.

People in the Czech Republic grow succulents and tropical plants. Observable changes in the Czech Republic

People go mushrooming and find new species typical for warmer countries. Observable changes in the Czech Republic

There are some poisonous spiders in our territory – you could not find them in the past here. Observable changes in the Czech Republic

In any case, it is good to know more about ECOLOGY

Can we make a difference? Can people in Třinec themselves make a difference?

We talked to our family and friends to find out what we can do together to try to stop global warming.

Turn the heating down in winter. Dress warmer if you are cold. Buy food from local farmers, supermarkets buy food all over the world, import it by planes or trucks. Take the bus, walk or ride a bike instead of going by car. You can save electricity and money when you use sun and wind energy. Use cars that are friendly to nature – some cars use gas and not petrol. Separate waste! Collect old paper and compost green waste. Recycle! Here are some tips:
