GW3 Grammar Lesson Example: Gerunds & Infinitives How are we going to learn grammar this term?

Class One - Fridays  1. Noticing Task: can you notice this grammar point in a sentence; can you notice some rules about it?  2. Pre-test: how much do you already know about this grammar topic; what do you still need to learn? *Start thinking about what you will do for the Independent Study assignment, due in 1 week

At Home – Homework for next class  3. Watch Video or Power Point explanation: answer “knowledge” questions  4. Do grammar exercises: assigned by Katie from Grammar in Context 3 – check your answers with Answer Key and bring your questions to next class

Class Two - Mondays  5. Video explanation follow-up:  go over “knowledge” questions (as a class, groups present answers)  Katie gives more explanation as needed  Q&A time about homework exercises  6. Controlled practice: more book exercises and/or handouts  Additional homework practice may be assigned

Class Three - Wednesdays  7. Less-controlled practice:  ex. free-writing and editing; student-led games  This practice encourages the student to use the grammar independently  Katie will give feedback on student writing  Homework: complete Independent Study assignment and study for quiz

Class Four - Fridays  8. Post-test (Grammar Quiz)  Hand in evidence of Independent Study at the beginning of class, before the quiz
