Week of Feb. 2-6

2. Daily Language Review (DLR)
On Monday, students write in their notes the different terms associated with the grammar that we are practicing this week.
Monday-Friday the students will have a grammar exercise that contains 5 questions.
The DLRs are a part of the bell work activities.
As a class we review the responses for the grammar exercises.
The DLRs are being used to help review the grammar students are learning in their English classes. The FSA will have questions that require students to make corrections in grammar, usage, and mechanics.

3. Synthesizing Information (Guided Practice)
Make vocabulary maps for the underlined words.
Read the article “Eclipse.”
Identify the main idea of all three sections of the text.
Answer the comprehension questions at the end of the text.

4. Synthesizing Matching Activity
The students will be assigned as follows for this activity:
6 students – conclusions
18 students - details
Instructions:
The students that are labeled with similar details will need to find each other in the classroom.
All students with details will be moving around the room.
With your details, you need to draw a conclusion.
Find the student that matches the conclusion that can be drawn from the details.
When you think you’ve got it, raise your hand so Ms. Haarer can check your answers.

5. Synthesizing Information (Independent Practice)
Read the text titled “Aftershock” by Charles W. Petit.
Respond to the comprehension questions at the end of the passage and cite evidence for your answers.
The evidence should be information that is pulled from the text that can support the answer selected.

6. Computer Lab Go to www.empower3000.com
Enter your username/password to log in.
Select “Haarer” in the dropdown box.
Click “Begin Lesson” on the home page to start today’s article (“A Race To Get Water ”).
Respond to the poll with an explanation.
Read the article and identify at least 5 key points.
Fill out a key points worksheet.
Answer the activity questions.
Respond to the thought question.

7. FSA Practice Part 1: Part 2:
Preview the article “Marching for Civil Rights” by looking at the keywords in the questions and discussing what we already know.
Read the article, noting important details from the text.
Answer the comprehension questions associated with the text and cite evidence to support the answers.
Part 2:
Watch the corresponding video about Martin Luther King Jr. and answer the questions associated with the video and the text.
Most of these questions require the students to synthesize the information from the text and the video.
Respond to the written response question and the grammar questions that follow.

8. Listening Lesson 11 Listen to a text read aloud.
You may take notes while you are listening to the text.
Answer 4-5 questions about the text without looking back at the text.
This activity is designed to help you improve your listening skills in preparation for the listening portion of the FSA.
