Becoming a tutor: Choose your subject 1 st year General Management – Normally provided by colleges, so contact them You might be able to arrange a reduced load, e.g. less than 8 weeks, or hours per week. Financial Management – Normally provided by SBS, so contact Johnathon Ratcliffe Taught as tutorials and classes 2 nd and 3 rd year Students do specialised options over one term 8 tutorials per term, groups of up to 4 Ops Man, Org Behaviour, Accounting, Strategy, Finance, Marketing. 3

Becoming a tutor: Check the reading list All the reading lists are available on Weblearn Log in with your SSO Johnathon can grant you full access 4

Becoming a tutor: Meet the course organiser Find out where you could fit in to the course schedule Check your other commitments Conferences, research visits, exams, courses etc. 1 st year General Management Discuss with Johnathon to identify possible vacancies Meet with tutor in the college to agree where you could fit in Everything else: Meet the course organiser Speak to Johnathon Schedules are drawn up in the two weeks before term 5

Scheduling the tutorials Complex process for 2 nd and 3 rd years Students are taking courses in Economics Managed by Johnathon Finds out all the courses that the students are taking, Forms them into groups, Checks clashes with other tutorials, lectures and classes, Generates a schedule for each course Publishes them on Weblearn Students must confirm their course choices two weeks before the start of term Change requests will be accommodated if possible 6

Providing feedback Tutorials are formatively assessed Each tutorial, provide some written feedback on each student’s essay Expand the discussion of the topic How to improve their writing and argumentation skills Exploration of the literature Tensions, development of thought Good use of examples Any novel contribution or suggestions Students like an indicative grade Some tutors use a feedback form 8

End of term reports Every student that you teach requires an end of term report by the end of Week 7 These are used by colleges to monitor performance Reports trigger payments by colleges to tutors or Departments Managed by a software system called OxCORT Maintained by the colleges 9

Collections At the beginning of the term after the course, students sit a mock exam in college These are sent for marking to the students’ tutor Should be returned to the college tutor by the end of Week 4 Provide a mark and recommendations for improvement the students to say the marked collection is with their tutor Cc the tutor 12

Universal Handbook Many of the processes involved in running the undergraduate courses are mapped in the E&M Universal Handbook Intended for students, staff and faculty Never-ending work in progress Hope to publish on Weblearn this term Suggestions for changes to process, updates from the community will be necessary 13
