Host families are here to extend our Christian love without asking something for return.

Should be aged 25 and older A household should have a minimum of two family members – either related by blood or marriage. Single parent households, host families with younger children as well as parents with adult children. Guideline s for Host Family Qualifications

Host Family Guideline s  A healthy family life, a willing commitment and a realistic expectation.  Welcome the new students into my home as a member of my family.  Upon arrival in your home, please inform your students of your household policy toward smoking.  Give your students a thorough explanation of how your house operates on the first day (shower, faucets, bed, water, etc.).  Provide 2 meals for the working days or 3 meals for the weekend.  Provide transportation to UTD campus (back and forth).  Include student(s) in family activities.  Carry on your daily life naturally (Do not change to meet the students’ expectation. Let them adapt to you).  May invite them to church but DO NOT proselytize our religion on them.  Do not automatically pay for everything unless you have made a decision to do so and they know the cost of things, e.g., restaurants, etc.  DCFC is not liable for any loss/injury incurred as a result of the hosting.

1. 请 Host family sign up the assignment sheet asap. 2.Host family 可提供的帮助包括下面的列举的一项, 或 两项, 或全部 : o 提供机场接机, o 提供临时住处 ( 一般不超过 7 天)与早, 晚餐 o 提供交通到 UTD (来 & 回) o Provide transportation for Grocery shopping 3.Host family does NOT need to help to (1) open a Bank account (2) registration (3) other things 4. DCFC Host Family’s Job Description:

1. Help – Airport pick up, temporary housing, transportation to grocery. 2. English – DCFC English department has done a good job since last year by offering ESL. They will to continue in this service. 3. Friendship - If not pressed by their classes, new students will love to hang out with friends. Helping them in time of need and Introducing them to a group of people. 4. Holiday Celebrations – Involving them in celebrations of both American and Chinese holidays. 5.Outdoor activities: Help/involve them to visit points of interests: ex. Dallas Downtown, Fort Worth, Six Flags, State Parks. Invite them to picnic or camping. (A) Top Several ways to serve the new students

Do not change to meet the students’ expectation. Let them adapt to you ) 。 2.

Dinners and parties, provide opportunities to spend time with new students. The new students don’t have much experience in cooking delicious food. There are quite interesting in dinners and parties. Tips for sponsoring these events: (1)Small dinner or party: Just dinner and casual conversation. Don’t be too worried about discussing spiritual matters. You may tell the new students “my stories” in America including our struggles and funny things. These should be interesting to them. (2)Special dinner or party: may invite a guest speaker to present a topic such as, “ The True Meaning of Christmas,” or “ My Faith Journey,” or watch a good movie. You may also share “my story” about how I become a Christian (This could happen only as their interest grow and when appropriate). C) Dinners and Parties Overly eager evangelism at this stage often backfired and scared people away.

Keep close and courteous contacts with the students. DCFC will have a gospel seminar in the second weekend of September. Date: 9/9-9/11 Speaker: Dr. Hua Xin Invite the new students to attend this gospel seminar if possible. What do we do now?

DO......…. look for ways to demonstrate your love and commitment to them. DON'T......argue. The goal is not to win an argument but to lead them to Christ. DO share your story about how you become a Christian only as their interest grow and when appropriate. DON'T being overly eager in evangelism at this stage. It will be often backfired and scared people away. Dos and Don’ts for New Students
