Evaluation of Religious Values Kat Herrera On Kat Herrera

Family Influence

Grandmother Dad’s Side ★ Grandmother at Kat’s Dad’s side were influenced by Evangelicalism; Evangelist refers to a Christian who explains his or her beliefs to a non-Christian and thereby participates in Evangelism

Grandparents at her Mother’s side Both of Kat’s grandparents are Christian. Evaluation: Grandparents influenced Kat’s parents to become Christian. However, they weren’t strongly influenced by it.

Indirect Influences During Kat’s childhood, she was pressured by her grandparents to attend church. But as her parents weren’t devoted Christians they didn’t force her to go to church. No religious rituals, which can explain how she wasn’t heavily exposed to Christianity.

Exposure to Christianity 1) She remembers her mother praying for her when she got sick. 2) In 6 th grade she attended Catholic School. 3) She was forced to pray 3 times a day.

4) Moved her school where it was dominated by Americans with no religious beliefs. - This change in her life made Kat’s life more comfortable which may have led her to think that ‘religious beliefs’ are something that is ‘uncomfortable’ and ‘unusual.’ - Kat slowly forgot all the prayers she learned in her previous school, which is an evident that she lost interest on her religious rituals.

5) Exposure to media which showed priests raping little children, receiving money had a great impact on Kat.

Evaluation If I were to put myself in Kat’s shoes, I think I would also be light Christian. She was nurtured to live the way she wanted to, she wasn’t forced to attend church and her indirect influences from her parents and grandparents weren’t dramatically strong which made her independent. And as she was forced to attend such school (catholic school) she had to go through

Rituals that she didn’t appreciate, she ‘had to’ do it. If I were in her situation, I would also feel uncomfortable towards my surroundings that I would find American School more comfortable, the fact that the school is dominated by students who don’t value religions as much, I think I would have also absorb into such thoughts.
