This report comprises of the activities of the Board took place during the period 01 st May 2014 to 30 th September 2015  Standing Committees by which the activities of the board are implemented and administered. (1) Committee on Practice Related Affairs - (CPRA) (2) Members Administration Committee - (MAC) (3) Committee on Continuing Professional Development – CPD  Sub Committee in Operation  (1) Committee on Practice Manual 1.1 Client Architect Agreement / Fee Scale  PAB has taken the initiative in compiling the updated fee scale document as two comprehensive publications. The Volume 1 “The Guide to Architect” basically comprises of preliminary services, basic services, other services, computation of fees and expenses. PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES OF THE PROFESSIONAL AFFAIRS BOARD - (PAB) 1.0 COMMITTEE ON PRACTICE RELATED AFFAIRS – (CPRA)

1.2 SLIA Sustainable Performance Evaluation Criteria Index (SLIA - SPECI) A separate unit will be established to administer the implementation of SPECI. PAB is committed to formulate strategies for marketing SPECI amongst general public as a unique rating system of Post Occupancy Evaluation.

SLIA-SPECI Analyze & Evaluate with following concerns  The bottom line of each sub-heading is the Performance and Sustainability in multidisciplinary parameters under SPECI.  Whether the building is old or new, SPECI concerns its current states.  Evaluator considered the building as a third party evaluator.  SPECI do not get into detailed calculations of various concerns. It looks into the building in an holistic Architect’s point of view for Performance and Sustainability.  Analysis of alternative design concepts are not a part of SPECI.  All qualitative parameters are valued as it feels & appropriate to the task, while quantities are considered in the range of optimum provisions allocated. Evaluators task is to attend to the proper analysis & judgments of the status of each different sub-heading in relation to the current state of the building to allocate rating/points to identify the overall Sustainability & Performance of the building.

1.3 Practice Manual The compilation of expanded edition of Volume 1 “Managing a Practice” and the 02 nd edition of Volume 2 “ Standard Forms” will be completed and published in November  The Volume 1 features the details of entitlements, fee negotiation and life cycle benefits as well.  The Volume 2 “ The Agreement” Comprises of Conditions of Engagement and the Form of Agreement.

1.4Approach for New Consultancy Practices Total number of Practices of each category registered with Sri Lanka Institute of Architects are given below; - - Individual Practice – Sole Proprietorship – Partnership – Private Limited Liability – 63 - Government Statutory Body – 01

PAB continues on taking appropriate actions on above matter. PAB is vigilant on Architectural Practices rendered by Non Qualified Persons, Contractors & Foreign Architects (Not registered with SLIA). 1.5 Illegal Practices

3.0 CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT– (CPD) - PAB has conducted following CPD Events for the period 01 st May 2014 to 10 th November 2015 (SESSION 2014/2015) CPD EVENT – 2 “DESIGN & MANAGEMENT OF MEGA BUILDING PROJECTS” CPD EVENT – 3 “INTRODUCTION TO BUILDING INFORMATION MODELING” (SESSION 2015/2016) CPD EVENT – 1 “ LAND SLIDES AND CUT SLOPE FAILURES: THE DESIGN CHALLENGE” CPD EVENT – 2 The CPD Event – 2 was conducted on 06 th November “MAKING IT RELEVANT TO FUTURE GENERATIONS: SUSTAINABLE HERITAGE MANAGEMENT IN THE SULTANATE OF OMAN”

CPD POLICY PAB adopted a CPD policy for SLIA during this session and presented for the concurrence of the Council. The SLIA is committed to the advancement of architecture and the fostering of skills and service in the profession. It concerned with the maintenance and development of professional development of professional competence in all areas of architectural endeavor for the benefit of broader community. Framework for CPD Acceptable CPD activities shall be subject to the following principles Relate to practice of Architecture Be additional to activities already undertaken in the normal course of an Architect’s practice or employment.

Type of Activity Following areas are covered in CPD activities by which topics are selected for Annual CPD calendar.  Society  Technology  Environment  Profession An effective program shall have standards in following units.  Professional ethics  Design  Documentation  Project Management  Practice Management

 PAB has taken the initiative of adopting an acceptable point system for annual assessment of SLIA Corporate Members.  Members can accrue points by participating CPD events, Workshops, National Conference, Webinars, On line presentations and any other events recognized by the Institute..  The accepted minimum commitment for CPD from a corporate member shall be 12 points per annum. It will come down to 06 points for members who have completed 20 years corporate membership.  CPD attendance monitoring system will be initially implemented on voluntary basis.

 PAB organized a Speech Craft programme for corporate members during the session 2014/2015 with the cooperation of Toastmasters International, Colombo Division.  The main purpose of conducting this program is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every participant has the opportunity to develop oral communication, leadership skills which in turn foster self-confidence and personal growth.  The first program was attended by 22 corporate members. PAB positively contributes its fullest support to continue this program in the future.

 PAB formulated strategies in following areas for to be included in the SLIA Corporate Strategic Plan.  Maintain and improve the standards of Professional Practice of Architecture.  Maintain and improve the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program.  Make profession related information more accessible to the membership.  Improve SLIA Membership Data Base.  Quality improvements to the PAB process.
