Greek Contributions

History  Herodotus-wrote down everything he could find about a historical event  Thucydides-only wrote what he thought was the truth

Heredotus

Poetry  Homer-a blind man who was the greatest storyteller in Greek history. Told epics which are narrative poems( Iliad/Odyssey)

Homer:

Drama  Aeschylus-wrote 80 plays, in which seven survive (tragedies-Orestia)  Sophocles-wrote 100 plays, also tragedies including Oedipus the King

Philosophy  Socrates-came up with Socratic method which is teaching by question and answer technique  Plato-writes The Republic- claims that best government would be ruled by philosopher king(student of Socrates)

Death of Socrates:

Continued…   Aristotle-student of Plato. Works in psychology, physics, and biology. Basis for scientific method. (Tudor of Alexander the Great)

Science  Archimedes-establishes the value of pi, invents lever, compound pulley, Archimedes screw and a catapult  Hippocrates-worked with medicine, established the Hippocratic oath which nurses and Doctors still recite today.
