Invitation You’re invited to The School Leavers’ Party On Saturday 30th May at 5 pm In the school hall Bring a traditional dish—“finger food” Music and dancing Look at the party invitation and answer the questions. ① What’s a school leavers’ party? A party for students who are completing their secondary school education that year.

Listen to music and dance. ② What’s a traditional dish? ③ What do you think “finger food” is? ④ What else is there to do at the party? Something which belongs to the place where you live or where you’re from. Food which you can eat with your hands--- you don’t need knives and forks or chopsticks.

Listen and complete the conversation. Tony: Hi Mum, have you been shopping? What have you got in the ________? Tony’s mum: Food and drink for us, and for your party. Now, what would you prefer to make for your party, _________ or _________? Remember, it’s got to be finger food and something traditional. Tony: What’s finger food? Tony’s mum: Food you can eat with your fingers, not with a _____and ______! pancakes pizza basket knifefork

Tony: Pancakes are traditional … but so is ______! I think I’d like ______. Tony’s mum: Ok, so I’ve got _____, ___________ and ______. Tony: Are the _______ for the party, too? Tony’s mum: No, they’re for us. Tony: And the bread? Tony’s mum: No, if you’ve got pizza, you don’t need bread, too. Tony: What about the _____ ? Tony’s mum: No, of course not. The ________ is for you. pizza ham tomatoes cheese grapes wine lemonade

hamburgers DishMade with… Betty Lingling Tony Daming Suanla tang pizza jiaozi (meat) cheese, bread roll Chicken or pork and vegetables Cheese, tomato, ham (We don’t know, but probably meat or eggs, vegetables, flour) Read the conversation and complete the table with notes. Then listen again and check your answers. hambu rgers

I think he feels pleased and proud. At home. Read the conversation carefully and answer the questions. ① How do you think Daming feel about his role at the school leavers’ party? ② Where are they going to prepare the food?

Because you can eat it everywhere in England. Because it is an Italian dish which wasn’t introduced into Britain then. ④ Why do you think Tony calls pizza a traditional English dish? ⑤ Why does Betty think Shakespeare didn’t eat pizza? Because their school asks the students, not their relatives, to prepare the food. ③ Why does Betty ask if Daming’s grandmother is coming to the school leavers’ party?
