Active Living Census Purpose & Method PURPOSE To measure current physical activity, recreation and health behaviours and trends To better understand infrastructure needs To enable evidence based planning and provision of services To help prioritise allocation of council funding To provide the community with high quality data to support their efforts. METHOD Hard copy surveys sent to all residential households. Online version also available. Promoted through an advertising campaign. Responses received from 28 April to 23 May, ,437 completed surveys

Active Living Census Summary Findings – Adults’ Health SELF-RATED HEALTH STATUS: 18% of adults report “poor” or “fair” health status EXERCISE: Less than 50% achieve the weekly recommended 150 minutes High levels of inactivity FRUIT: 46.8% meet fruit dietary guidelines VEGETABLES: 9.5% meet vegetable dietary guidelines ALCOHOL: 15.9% report usually drinking more than 4 standard drinks per occasion (levels that put them at short-term risk of alcohol-related harm) SMOKING: 12.8% smoking rate
