Aim: To be aware of health and safety issues when using a computer TSSBAT:  Identify college policies that relate to the use of ICT  Evaluate the suitability of the environment, furniture and equipment being used in class.  Complete a health and safety checklist

What is the college Internet and policy? What security measures do you take?  Username and password  Turn monitor off  Lock screen if leaving your station  Log off when leaving the room

1.The top of the monitor screen is at eye level. 2.An adjustable chair has a height adjustment to allow the feet to rest on the floor or a footrest; the back of the chair also adjusts for different positions.

The Monitor Position to minimise glare Place as far away from you as possible whilst maintaining the ability to read the screen Keep a minimum distance of 20 inches. Your eyes should be at eye level with the top of the screen.

Keyboard/Mouse Place the keyboard / mouse below the elbow but allow the wrists to remain straight Do NOT use a wrist rest while typing. It’s meant to rest on. Place the mouse next to and the keyboard.

The Chair Use arm rests. Adjust the height of the chair so your feet can rest completely on the floor. Allow 1-3 inches between the edge of the seat and the back of your knees. Use a high back chair that supports your shoulder blades if at all possible

ENVIRONMENT

 Work surfaces should be large enough for the tasks to be done  clear of obstructions  have a matt surface to prevent glare  sufficient space for a mouse mat.  Suitable noise level in class and on the computer

Lighting should be bright enough to see but not too bright Lights that are faulty e.g. flickering should be reported to Estates using an E-Ticket All electrical wires should be secured and free of tripping hazards – no trailing cables. There should be sufficient electrical points
