Basic Slide Show Under Tile Spooled Heating Installation Guide

InsulAte Provides both Sound & Heat Insulation. InsulAte Mat is an insulation mat with a sticky back. The backing is peeled off and stuck onto the primer. The Mat Size = 0.55m*1.1m (0.605m²) with a thickness of only 3mm has a 0.8 R value. To calculate the required mats divide the floor area by 0.605m². E.G 5m²/.65 = 7.69 mats, so you would order 8 mats. Bathroom floor with Peel & Stick Primer applied and is now ready to accept the InsulAte

Note: All subfloors must be clean and free of sharp objects. Prourite Primer must be used on all subfloors prior to laying the InsulAte Mat. See InsulAte is laid on the net floor area, which is the same area the heating are installed. The use a weighted roller to obtain good adhesion to the primer is also recommende d. Easy Mat rolled out ready for cutting & fitting.

Finished InsulAte installation – now ready for element placement The element spacing formula is as follows: 1: Take the net floor area x by 1000, divide by the length of the element you are using. 2: Eg. 2.4m2 x 1000 = 2400 divided by element length of a 400 watt (35mtrs) = 68.5mm spacing. When measuring the net floor area, measure off the walls, benches and shower trays etc the distance you require. Marking out the floor once you know the spacings, is recommended. The minimum spacing is 50mm and the maximum is 80mm to achieve efficient heat distribution. Do NOT lay elements in areas that may have floor fixtures installed after tiling. Eg. Toilets & doorstops. Test the element to ensure correct Ohms reading prior to installation Cable Spacing

1: Chisel 2 short channels in the subfloor at 50mm spacings at the start point to accommodate the black joins of both the first and second power supply cords. (Cold Tails) This will minimise their height and create a flat surface for tiling. 2: Unroll the initial 3 mtr cold tail until you reach the black join of the element. 3: Tape the black join into the first channel of the subfloor at your start point and leave the power cord to one side while you lay the element. Note the draw wire in the wall for the cold tails to be pulled up to the controller

Installation 1: The floor must be clean, dry and level. If necessary sand or grind the floor. 2: Apply EasyMat if being used, otherwise go to step 3. 3: Prior to waterproofing, prime the floor with primer and leave to dry for minutes. This will ensure good adhesion for taping down the heating element. Laying the elements – Note the marks on the floor to show where the lay out will go.

Laying the element at the half way mark. Note on the left side of this photo the elements have not been laid. This is where the shower will be installed. Heating Elements must: - 1.NEVER be cut or shortened. 2.NEVER be crossed over. 3.NEVER be placed into the wall cavity. 4.NEVER cross over into another room. 5.NEVER be spaced less than 50mm. 6.NEVER be installed on irregular surfaces. Note the red half way mark on the element to guide your installation position.

1: Tape the element in place and then use hot glue to secure all over. 2: Additional tape or spray adhesive can also be used. Warning: If the element is unsecure then it will lift when the screed is laid. Tape and hot glue the element to ensure good adhesion

Excess element may be used up in these types of areas. Element laid around the toilet and bidette

Working around a central waste.

Cold Tails: 1: Attach the draw wire to the ends of both cold tails, as well as the floor probe (sensor) wire. 2: Gently pull up inside the wall, so that the cold tails and probe wire can reach the flush box. 3: The flush box should be installed vertically to accept the Hotwire thermostat. 4: Tape cold tails to supply cable (Power) to avoid them dropping back down inside the wall. Both Cold Tails and the floor probe taped to the draw wire

1: Recess the probe (Sensor) flat onto the floor and use hot glue to hold it in place. Note: The probe is exactly half way between the 2 runs of heating cable. This is to ensure that it obtains the correct temperature readings. Test the element to ensure correct Ohms reading after installation & prior to screed being laid. Warning: The probe wire must NOT cross over the heating element. Floor probe (Sensor) set in floor beside the elements

Draught stop can be used to stop the screed from flowing into unwanted areas, such as showers and drains etc. Draught stop laid prior to Screed pour

Draught stop can also be used around the toilet pipe to ensure screed does not enter the pipe area. Toilet Pipe area

Pourite Self Levelling Screed Note: If InsulAte Is not being used then all subfloors must be clean and free of sharp objects. Prourite Primer must be used on all subfloors prior to laying the heating cable. 1: The water content and mixing is critical to get a smooth finish. 2: Walking on the elements now may only be done in socks or very soft shoes to avoid any faults occurring. Note: There are no heating cables close to the vanity waste pipe, as the vanity is floor fitted and not wall hung. First Bucket (pour) of screed

The use a foam trowel to spread the screed over the floor is recommended. Spreading the screed

Note: The screed has not gone past the draught strip. Screeding around the bidette outlet.

Rolling the floor with a spiked roller ensures an even coverage and also bursts any air bubbles. The Roller to finish off

Test the element to ensure correct Ohms reading after the screed has been laid. 1: Once the screed has dried it will be ready for the tiler. 2: The curing time will vary due to the temperature of the air and floor as well as humidity. 3: All freshly applied material must be protected for a minimum period of 24 hours after the application of the screed. Finished floor.
