Fashion Fashion involves the design, production, distribution and marketing of clothing and accessories for men, women, children and the home.

Fashion Merchandising Is the planning, buying, and selling of fashion.

What is “in fashion”? Styles of clothing and accessories worn at a particular time by a particular group of people.

Fashion Fashion on its most basic level is about the making and selling of clothes as they relate to style and image. It is the most dynamic of American businesses. It thrives on change.

MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT FASHION 1.Designers and retailers dictate fashion. Reality – People dictate fashion by accepting or rejecting styles. 2.Fashion only influences women. Reality – Everyone is influenced by fashion. 3.Fashion is mysterious and unpredictable. Reality – It is very predictable.

FASHION Fashion is the display of the currently popular style of objects or activities. In apparel, fashion is the prevailing type of clothing that is favored by a large segment of the public at any given time.

HIGH FASHION Definition: styles or designs accepted by a limited group of fashion leaders. Items are the very latest or newest fashions. Usually innovative, expensive, and of fine quality. Generally introduced and sold in small quantities to socialites, entertainers, and innovators. Later, they are usually modified and copied to appeal to the majority of consumers (high fashion becomes mass fashion).

MASS FASHION OR VOLUME FASHION DEFINITION: Fashions produced in large quantities at moderate prices and appeal to the majority of fashion conscious customers.

Taste Refers to the prevailing opinion of what is attractive and appropriate for a given person and occasion.

Classic & Fad Classic: – A style or design that satisfies a basic need and remains a general fashion acceptance for an extended period of time. Fad: – A temporary, passing fashion. Generally, it is an unusual garment, accessory, or look that has great appeal to many people for a short period of time.

Accessories Articles added to complete or enhance apparel outfits. Examples: – Belts, hats, jewelry, shoes, gloves, scarves.

FORD A ford is a style or design that is produced at the same time by many different manufacturers at many different prices. Also called a best seller.
