What is Modernism? The modernist period= beginning of twentieth century → 1965 Experimentation and individualism Experimentation and individualism were frowned upon Didn’t focus on one thing, went beyond what other eras did

Modernists Didn’t follow traditional ways of seeing the world Challenged and experimented with traditional form and expectations Mixed slang with more intelligent language “Instead of progress and growth, the Modernists intelligentsia sees decay and growing alienation of the individual.”

Influences/Inspiration (Other Eras) Started out as a reaction against a prevalent art form in the nineteenth century- The Victorian Age Breaks with traditions became a model for the Modernist stance Some modernist writers were fueled by their reactions to Romanticism
