The Works of William Shakespeare By Sophia Ilyas, Shivali Dave, Simrah Farooqui and Alysha Arshad.

Introduction We will be writing about the works of William Shakespeare; his inspiration to become a writer, his style of play writing, the types of play stories he wrote and the popularity. I hope you enjoy our presentation and learn plenty of important facts about the works of William Shakespeare.

His Writing Style William used extended metaphors; inversion; Elizabethan words and interruptions. Extended metaphors: a metaphor that would be repeated similarly or continued throughout a few lines/paragraphs. Inversions: When the order of certain types of words would be muddled up. Such as: the subject, verb, object and place. Elizabethan words: Vowels will have been dropped and replaced by apostrophes and here were suffixes. Interruptions: Some of the sentences could get very long as there would be all sorts of details added and much stretched grammar and punctuation.

The Types of Plays that William Wrote He wrote plays to be performed in the theatre but some which would get published illegally, a few years later, as pirate copies. There were many emotions in his plays, very exaggerated and dependant on the type of play, there could be very dramatic endings. The type of plays he wrote, include: Histories, Comedies, Tragedies, Romances and Tragicomedies/Problem plays.

What years were his plays written? Shakespeare has written many plays that we still remember now. Of course there are to many to list but here are a few of his most popular plays: : The comedy of errors This play was Shakespeare’s very first play which was a huge success. 1594: Romeo and Juliet This is a romantic love story full tragedy. It is very popular in the modern times as it was made into a movie in : Midsummer’s nights dream An interesting play with two story lines. One about a love triangle and the other about complications that arise in the forest with fairies

1599: Julius Caesar Another popular story written by Shakespeare, about rivalry, threat and plotting revenge. 1600: Hamlet A successful story with a complicated story line but very interesting : Othello A story of tragedy where the main plot is about a wife and husband who have been betrayed by there right hand man leading to murder of an innocent women. 1606: Macbeth Full of murder and tragedy. This is a very unique story which will not want to make you want it to end : The Tempest Always a favourite including magic of the spirits and envy of the brother.

Shakespeare's work has made a lasting impression on later theatre and literature. In particular, he expanded the dramatic potential of characterization, plot, language, and genre. Until Romeo and Juliet, for example, romance had not been viewed as a worthy topic for tragedy. Shakespeare would explore characters' minds in his plays. His work heavily influenced later poetry.

Shakespeare influenced novelists such as Thomas Hardy, William Faulkner, and Charles Dickens. Dickens often quoted Shakespeare, drawing 25 of his titles from Shakespeare's works. Scholars have identified 20,000 pieces of music linked to Shakespeare's works. These include two operas by Giuseppe Verdi, Othello and Falstaff. Shakespeare has also inspired many painters, including the Romantics and the Pre-Raphaelites. The Swiss Romantic artist Henry Fuseli, a friend of William Blake, even translated Macbeth into German.

William Shakespeare’s plays Where did he get his inspiration from? There are many different answers for this question. Some people think that the answer to this question is from the history of Britain. On the other hand, other people say that he got his ideas from the Christian Bible. But no matter what, he definitely added more information to what he already had to make the facts fit for a play. He also is known to have based some of his plots on real life people or experiences. For example, he is said to have written some of his sonnets based on his love for Anne Hathaway, his wife.
