Research Question Do radish seeds germinate faster when they are in a (50ml) 1/2 a cup of tap water with 250ml of soil each, or do seeds germinate faster when they are in (50ml) 1/2 cup of sea salt water with 250ml of soil?

Research Information Our Research Information, is that when we were searching the web for ideas, we saw that Radish seeds germinate fast with tap water. So, we used 5 Radish seeds, and watched them germinate!

Research Predictions We think that the radish seed in the tap water will grow faster than the sea salt water. Control Variable- Amount of sunlight and amount of water and Radish seeds Independent Variable- Salt water Dependant Variable- (rate of germination-which germinates faster)

Experimental Design 1. We fill 6 cups with 250ml of soil. 2. We put 5 Radish seeds (2cm. deep) in each cup. 3. Then we water it daily. (10ml) 3 cups with salt;3 cups with tap water. 4. Finally, we put it next to the window (for sunlight) and wait about 1 week for them to geminate. Then we see what ones germinate the fastest.

Materials 1.Radish seeds 2.water 3.sunlight 4.cups 5.soil

Analysis Our analysis, is that we took 6 ordinary cups and filled them with 250ml of soil. Once we did that, we took 5 Radish seeds, and placed them in the middle of the soil (after we put a ruler to spread the soil to the sides. Next, we watered 10ml of tap water for cup A,B, and C. Then we watered 10ml of salt water for cups D, E and F. Each day we did the same thing, and measured how much each plant grew. On day 1, the soil became wetter and there are still little holes in the soil from when we put the seeds in for all cups. On day 2, cups A, B and C started growing little leaves. Cup A still has moist soil and is flattening on the top, and grew 70cm. Cup B grew 80cm, and cup C grew 70cm. Cups D, E, and F have moist soil that is flattening. Nothing grew though. On day 3, Cup A grew 90cm. Cup B grew 80cm. Cup C grew 100cm. Cups D, E, ans F didn't grow at all, but still has very moist soil. On day 5, cup A grew 110cm, cup B grew 80cm as well as cup C. D,E &F still didn’t grow at all. Over the past few days, Cups A, B, and C reached the highest of 170cm!

Research Conclusions Our conclusion on "Planting Science," is that our prediction was correct, the plants that were watered with tap water grew much faster. Where as, the plants watered with salt water didn't grow at all. Over the past few days, the plants with tap water grew much faster and taller in about 2days. Where as, the plants watered with salt water still didn't grow and it's been about 2-3 weeks.
