What is an Earthquake? An Earthquake is the shaking, rolling or sudden shock of the earth's surface. They are the Earth's natural means of releasing stress.

What is an Earthquake? Earthquake can be felt over large areas although they usually last less than one minute. Earthquakes cannot be predicted - although scientist are working on it!

Why earthquakes happen? When the plates squeeze or stretch, huge rocks form at their edges and the rocks shift with great force, causing an earthquake.

What is a tsunami? Tsunamis are large and powerful ocean waves that grow in size as they reach the shore. They can cause major damage as they rush inland flooding cities and destroying homes.

Why tsunamis happen? The sudden displacement of huge amounts of water causes tsunamis. Earthquakes and volcanoes can cause tsunami.

Fun Fact! The name "tsunami" is Japanese! In Japanese, tsunami is written like " つ なみ ", " 津波 " or " ツナミ ".

What is a tornado? Tornadoes - also known as 'twisters' - are violently rotating columns of air that reach from a storm cloud to the earth's surface

Why tornado happens? Most tornadoes form from thunderstorms. You need warm, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico and cool, dry air from Canada. When these two air masses meet, they create instability in the atmosphere.

Fun Fact Most tornadoes travel a few miles before exhausting themselves.
