Stats group: Priorities for 2012 AIM: Improve the feedback we get as a statistical community by implementing the Dissemination Strategy, sharing and learning from good practice in internal briefing and reporting. ACTION: Developed plan for implementation, secondment to SpAds office, work with comms to review processes, statistics group conference in June AIM: position statistics and analysis at the heart of performance evaluation. To improve delivery through enhancing the structure of evidence ACTION: developed context info on NPF: equalities, deprivation and long term trends. Bringing evidence together round National Outcomes. Developing contributory outcomes. AIM support plans to maximise our impact within tight budgets by ACTION: currently investigating whether there are potential efficiencies for either orgs we get data from, or on SG staff from organising the way we collectively get, validate and share administrative data. If so, we’ll plan a way of realising those efficiencies. AIM: ensure a highly motivated and skilled profession & improve the opportunities and impact of learning for analysts ACTION: ran promotion opportunities within SG and recruiting junior statistical staff. Bringing together staffing functions across the analytical group. T&D group developing analytical induction & leadership progs. AIM: To continue to ensure high quality statistical information is available and accessible to inform debate in Scottish society – including in relation to independence. ACTION: Mapping the work happening, identifying important gaps and prioritising how we fill them. Communicating Statistics National Perf Framework Admin data efficiencies ResourcesReferendum Data quality in public bodies SurveysData LinkageAnalytical ITConstitution AIM: bring into scope of official statistics further public bodies that produce regular statistical outputs. To develop the skills and competence of all producers of official statistics in Scotland. ACTION: Brought 5 new producers into scope, ran induction training & shared other training and development opportunities. AIM: build on the successes of the strategic approach across SG surveys to date, by broadening the scope across longitudinal, ad-hoc and non-SG surveys, and shifting focus to analysis and dissemination. ACTION: Developed methods for bringing SG surveys together, thus allowing saving of £2.8m each year. AIM: improve impact of data in Scotland and efficiency of research by driving forward the development of the data linkage strategic framework. ACTION: Ran public consultation, raising profile and networks. Conducted research on public attitudes. Appointed manager to develop virtual data linkage centre. AIM: successfully re-procure statistical analysis software. To explore the possibilities for web technologies and social media to enhance products and services. ACTION: Currently identifying analytical software needs of office as a whole as part of wider re-procurement AIM: identify requirements for provision of statistics under future constitutional scenarios, and to consider what plans and capacities need to be put in place to be able to fulfil those requirements. ACTION: Have explored the statistical requirements for independent nations. Are putting resources in place to explore current opportunities and barriers.
