Today’s Direct Support Workforce Turnover – 40 to 50% annually Costs of turnover –Hiring & training = $2,000 to $5,000 per DSP –DSP vacancy increases stress on workforce –Negative effect on people receiving support Training challenges –Limited quality and access –Rarely connected to professional competencies

Moving Home Minnesota Change in service system People with complex needs move or return to community living from larger congregate care facilities New expectations for organizations supporting people who are transitioning Partnership between MN DHS and RTC at UMN Provide training, consulting and technical assistance around the state to support this initiative

College of Direct Support How to use the CDS MHM Training Modules: Step 1: Review the training plan. Step 2: Customize the plan to meet needs. Step 3: Build staff reward program for module completion. Step 4: Create a completion timeline (30, 60, 90 day, etc.) for each module Step 5: Use built in competency measures to assess skill development

College of Direct Support Step 6: Assign learning modules to frontline supervisors and managers, first, and then to direct support professionals Suggested Prerequisite for supervisors: Professional Development for Supervisors (approximately 10 hours of training) College of Frontline Supervision and Management (CFSM) Course: Orientation and Training- Lesson 1 – 5 Course: Fueling High Performance - Lesson 1 – 5 Step 7: Reinforce learning by using facilitated discussion groups - discuss how content can be incorporated into daily practice.
