2 The Center for Excellence in Home Care Practice and Education A Collaboration between The Visiting Nurse Association of Boston The William F. Connell School of Nursing at Boston College Adele Pike RN, EdD, Director

3 Identified needs For both populations –Core materials (syllabi, Agency policies and procedures, mandatory professional materials) –Patient teaching materials –Virtual communication/consultation with faculty and home care nurse experts For Community Health Nursing Students, full texts and videos (for assignments) For VNA of Boston clinicians, resources for current evidence-based practices and teaching tools

4 Why a web-based technology? Goal of the Center: to use technology to advance the care of patients recovering from acute illness or managing chronic illnesses in their homes Student demand: Evaluations from Community Health Nursing Students requested more online assignments Scalability: NU 261- Community Health Clinical Lab – has 8 sections using sites all over the greater Boston area

5 Opportunities VNAB converted to an Electronic Medical Record in 2004-2005; all clinicians now have Lap Top Computers IDES Faculty Summer Workshop program
