The Titanic By Joshua Gates Background information on the Titanic The Titanic was a gigantic ship that was supposed to ferry passengers from Great Britain to America. The ship took three years to build. The owner of the ship was White Star Line. It cost 7.5 million dollars to build. Look out! The Titanic just hit an iceberg! But no worries. The Titanic was unsinkable. Or at least, that’s what everybody thought. On a cold April night in the north Atlantic ocean, Captain Edward John Smith ( ) decided to go faster. The iceberg scraped the side of the Titanic and punched a hole in the Titanic. Soon the whole ship was in panic. Men who worked on the ship started lowering lifeboats half full. There was no law or order. As the back of the ship started to lift out the water the propellers were visible. In all, it took 2 hours and 20 minutes to sink. The Titanic at the dock lots of money and supplies were lost that day. But most importantly lots of people were lost(1513 to be exact). The survivors grieve for the lost. The remains were still not found. The population has also dropped. Soon, there will be rules and safety precautions that all ship builders will have to follow.
