EC Wellness Academy & Millennials MILLENNIALS? Demographic group whose birth years range from the early 1980s to the early 2000s

Who are Millennials? -- part 1 Grew up in an electronics-filled and increasingly online and socially-networked world The generation that has received the most marketing attention Tend to be tolerant of difference Having been raised under the mantra "follow your dreams" and being told they were special, they tend to be confident

Who are Millennials? – part 2 Millennial Student Attributes “Computers are not technology.” “Reality is no longer real.” “Doing is more important that knowing. ” “Losing is the fastest way to mastering a game because losing represents learning.” “Multitasking is a way of life.” “There is zero tolerance for delays.” “Consumer and creator are blurring.”

Educating Millennials The most diverse generation we have had to teach  Approaches must be diverse They expect to be engaged in their learning, they do not do well being passive learners The trend toward Millennials using smartphones, IPods and laptop computers rather than desktop computers reflects their preference toward a more portable learning environment They use texting and instant messaging (IM) to communicate with peers and set up meetings and use to clarify course information and expectations

Wellness Education for Millennials -- part 1 Attracted to wellness programs that give them a voice and help them connect with others (75% of millennials have at least one social media profile) Delivering an innovative wellness programs that caters to their needs and aligns with their preferences Personalization is important. Millennials are accustomed to curated experiences, and if a wellness program fails to provide a certain level of tailoring, this generation will notice

Wellness Education for Millennials -- part 2 Constant data collection is necessary (surveys, open discussions, focus groups) Technology is a key !!! Wellness platforms should adapt intelligently to individual needs and preferences based on data collected and past actions Effectively guiding each student to the appropriate programs, tools and support them through the whole process
