Where does Spanish come from? ¡España! (SPAIN!)

Where does Spanish come from? During the Middle Ages, Spanish developed in the Castile region of Spain which is why it is sometimes called “castellano.” Spanish was greatly influenced by different dialects from the Iberian peninsula, as well as Latin and Arabic. Lucky for us, Spanish has much in common with English because they are both LATIN-influenced languages.

How did Spanish leave Spain? Spanish was first brought to the Western Hemisphere (the Americas and the Caribbean) 5 centuries ago by Spanish explorers and colonists. Most of the explorers and colonists came from southern Spain, bringing with them accents from Andalusia.
