Homeostatic Imbalance In the joints!

Bursitis also called “water on the knee”. Caused by inflammation of bursae, or synovial membrane

Sprain this is when the ligaments or tendons reinforcing a joint are damaged. This is caused by : excessive stretching torn away from bone

arthritis: (arth= joint ; itis= inflammation) symptoms: pain, stiffness, and swelling in joint. Osteoarthritis Bone Spurs Rheumatoid arthritis Gouty arthritis

Osteoarthritis: most common form of arthritis Chronic condition that affects older people and worsens over time “wear-and-tear arthritis” The cartilage softens and frays

Bone Spurs occurs as osteoarthritis progresses. Exposed bone thickens and extra bone tissue (bone spurs) grows Restricts joint movement

Rheumatoid arthritis: Begins with inflammation of synovial membranes The membranes thicken and joints swell as the synovial fluid accumulates The body releases inflammatory chemicals that destroy body tissues. “RA” is an autoimmune disease It affects three times as many women as men Because of the changes in levels of female hormones

Rheumatoid arthritis:

Gouty arthritis, or gout: A disease in which uric acid accumulates in the blood It is then deposited as needle-shaped crystals in soft tissues of joints Most common in the great toe

Gouty arthritis, or gout: Most common if you are overweight, drink too much alcohol, or eat too much meat and fish that are high in chemicals called purines

Dislocation: When a bone is forced out of its normal position in the joint cavity The process of returning the bone to its proper position is called reduction

Joint Dislocation
