Romare Bearden

A technique of creating artwork by an assemblage or occurrence of diverse elements or fragments in unlikely or unexpected arrangement.

Born – Sept. 2, 1911 Died – March 12, 1988 African-American artist born in Charoltte, North Carolina but moved to NY as a toddler. Grew up knowing some major players in the Harlem Renaissance. Originally a painter, his focus and mediums changed with his experiences. In the 1960’s he began working with collage.

 Choose a fairy tale and recreate one scene using collage. Guidelines: -You must sketch your work before starting. -You must use magazine, construction paper and/or paint chips. -You must fill the entire base with paper. -Your concept must be clearly represented. -Your work must be neatly completed.

-Are to be signed out and in at the beginning and end of each class. -Are to be used on a cutting matt, and not on the bare table. -Are to be capped and laid flat on the table when not in use. -Are to be used in a responsible, safe manor at all times.
