Challenges to Rapid Multiplication with the “Mother Church” Model

Already established churches DO NOT naturally move toward church planting Is this statement true? Why or why not?

Churches DO NOT naturally move toward church planting LOSS of Fellowship LOSS of Finances LOSS of Ministry Leaders LACK of Kingdom Focus LACK of Health

We cannot depend on developing a network of motivated mother churches to regularly birth daughter congregations. Reality 1:

However, most churches can be LED toward birthing daughter congregations. Reality 2:

1 st KEY to Church Multiplication! Pastors who are committed to planting churches wherever they are called for the rest of their ministry. Pastors whose eyes are constantly open to planting opportunities.

1 st KEY to Church Multiplication! What if? When a pastor begins work in a new district, the first question they ask themselves is: “How soon can we plant a new church!” Their planting radar is up from DAY 1.

1 st KEY to Church Multiplication! How do we increase the number of pastor’s who have a passion for planting?

1 st KEY to Church Multiplication! Spreading the passion among SDA pastors. 1.Do you have it? You can’t share what you don’t have. 2. Global View. What you have needs to be shared. 3. Success Inspires- Stories. 4.Intentional Exposure What are some ways you can expose another pastor to the value of church planting?

1 st KEY to Church Multiplication! Conference Level Opportunities: 1.City-wide church planting rallies. 2.Planting emphasis for worker’s meeting. 3.Sponsoring pastors to attend Seed’s, etc.

1 st KEY to Church Multiplication! Conference Level Opportunities: 4.Plan a visit to a successful church plant. 5.Provide planting materials… “Rekindling a Lost Passion” 6.When you have openings, fill with pastors that believe in planting. Their enthusiasm will become the norm!

Rapid Multiplication is not possible if we depend ONLY on pastors to raise up churches!

Pastor’s alone planting: 1. Already assigned to district with a multitude of ministry commitments. 2. Can still plant, but will be limited in how much can be taken on and how often plants can be added. 3.Limited ability of Conference to employ full-time planters. 4. Too many areas and ethnic groups to reach when compared with the number of pastors.

2 nd KEY to Church Multiplication! Pastors who are committed to leadership multiplication. Eyes are open to potential lay church plant leaders who they can empower and develop.

Equipping Lay Planters for Excellence in Ministry Lay planter is clearly designated by church plant group as the leader. Church plant coordinator and administration validates group and selection of leader.

Equipping Lay Planters for Excellence in Ministry Definition of lay planter: --Any person who is leading a church that is not a full- time employee of the Conference.

Qualities of a lay church planter! Feel called to plant. Are spiritually mature. Willing to be trained and coached. Supportive of the Conference. They are empowering (a team player) Big FAITH. They believe God can and will do awesome things. Influence. A leader must be able to inspire and lead others.

Requirements: 1. Every Lay Planter is assigned a coach.

Equipping Lay Planters for Excellence in Ministry Definition of coach: --A full-time minister employed by the Conference.

Equipping Lay Planters for Excellence in Ministry Qualifications of a coach… -Proven soul-winner -Excellent listener -Empowering (will not take over the plant). -Familiar with the techniques of coaching and self-discovery. -Willing to commit (this is voluntary!)

Requirements: 1.Personal Coaching Relationship. Lay Planter and Coach will meet on a monthly basis for a coaching appointment. Lunch or supper is recommended and will be reimbursed (up to $20.00) by the church planting department.

Content of Coaching Meeting: --Ask Questions… Examples: “What successes/victories have you experienced recently?” “What can you celebrate?” “What challenges are you currently encountering that we can pray about?” --Ask Questions… Examples: “What successes/victories have you experienced recently?” “What can you celebrate?” “What challenges are you currently encountering that we can pray about?”

Content of Coaching Meeting: --Ask Questions --Listen --Encourage --Accountability --Resource --Prayer --Ask Questions --Listen --Encourage --Accountability --Resource --Prayer

Requirements: 2. Coach meets with church plant group on a monthly basis. --Only 1x quarter on Sabbath morning. Options include: board meeting, business meeting, social, youth outing, etc. --Coach conducts baptisms and ordinations. Purpose: A relationship is built with the coach. The coach can resource the lay planter more intelligently.

Requirements: 3. Coach holds a two week reaping evangelist meeting with the plant on an annual basis. -- The coach has a relationship with the group so they will be well prepared and supportive of the meeting. -- This provides an affordable evangelistic endeavor on a regular basis for the church.

Added benefits of a coach Coach encourages planter and plant to: -- move toward company and then church status. -- stay focused on the mission of the church through regular evangelistic endeavors. -- be realistic regarding facility needs and requests. -- keep a positive relationship with the Conference.

Two Multiplication Keys 1.Pastors who are committed to plant wherever they serve for the rest of their ministry. 2.Pastors who discover and develop lay planters to lead new churches.
