Why do we take the Iowa Assessment? What do the results prove?

Iowa Assessment for Students The Iowa Assessment is a chance to prove what you have learned and what you know. It is also a chance to see how you compare to other students in the state, and in the nation. Predictor for the ACT Help with placement of classes Iowa Assessment scores are on student transcripts

Iowa Assessment for UHS Demonstrates the schools adequate yearly progress (AYP) for UCSD, and the school’s annual improvement goals status Plan curriculum and remediation based on scores Special programs/classes for those shown to need it

Iowa Assessment for Iowa/Nation Scores offer proof of adequate yearly progress or lack there of Proof of what was taught at a school Evidence of what students learn at a school Indicator for No Child Left Behind (NCLB)

What if a school does not show positive progress? 1 st year- Identified as being on the “Watch List” 2 nd year- Identified as “A school in need of assistance” School must write a 2-year plan for improvement 3 rd year- Offering free tutoring and related services to students in needed area 4 th year- “Corrective Action” is needed Potentially replace staff Increase the time students spend in class, especially in reading and math 5 th year- Restructure the school 6 th year- School is up for closing

UHS scores put us on the watch list took us off of the watch list HOORAY! put us back on the watch list

ITEDS/Iowa Assessment is intended as proof of what students learned, and how well the school has taught. Do your best so your scores are a true picture of what you have learned.

ITED Tips Follow directions carefully Check your answers Read questions before you read the passage Answer the easier questions first (all of the ones you know for sure) Be present every day for the ITEDS Answer ALL OF THE QUESTIONS Make an educated guess when you don’t know an answer

Attendance The federal government requires that we test at least 95% of our student body. If you are absent you will be pulled from class to take the test and will make-up class work on your own time.

Work to meet the goals you set for yourself!

Do your best! That is all we ask.
