ACT Prep for AMES College Forum Lesson 2/6 11th grade

2 What is the ACT?

3

4 ACT at AMES You will take the ACT at AMES on February 28th
Note: The ACT you will take in February will not include the Writing test. Check with the colleges to which you intend to apply to see if a Writing test is required (any college in Utah does not require the Writing test).

5 How many times should I take the ACT?
Many students test twice, once as a junior and again as a senior. You should definitely consider retesting if you had any problems during testing, such as misunderstanding the directions, or feeling ill. You may also want to consider retesting if you don't believe that your scores accurately represent your abilities. Research shows that of students from the 2015 graduating class who took the ACT more than once: 57% increased their Composite score on the retest 21% had no change in their Composite score on the retest 2% decreased their Composite score on the retest

6 ACT Test Taking Strategies

7 Since it’s Curriculum Based, it is Somewhat Predictable
Since the exam draws from a body of knowledge that doesn’t substantially change over time, it is limited in the variety of questions it can ask. Therefore, knowledge of the College Readiness Standards is the test’s best preparation Predictability = Points!

8 Suggestions Pace Yourself Read the directions for each test carefully
The English, reading, and science tests ask for the “best” answer The math test asks for the “correct” answer Answer the easy questions first Use logic on more difficult questions Answer every question! There is no penalty for guessing Review Your work Erase completely
