4 Types of Standardized Tests Criterion Referenced: Compares individual student scores to a set of predefined standards Scores give information about the degree to which the test content was mastered Norm Referenced: Compares individual scores to the scores of a group of students who have taken the test Scores indicate standing relative to that group

5 Achievement Test Measures how much a student has learned in various academic content areas Used on a regular basis in classrooms Aptitude Test A test that estimates a student’s potential for learning Often used by schools for placement in specialized programs
