3 Ways to Cite  1. Quote  2. Paraphrase  3. Summarize

Vocabulary  1. Cite — Pulling information directly out of a text; to “quote”  2. Textual- From the text  3. Evidence - Support for your answer, opinion, or idea  4. Textual Evidence- Information from the text to support your answer  5. Analyze — To break apart and study (a text, a photograph, a poem, etc.)  6. Explicit — stated clearly and in detail; leaving no room for doubt  7. Inference — A reasonable guess based on textual evidence and what you know from your own experiences

Be a detective and PROVE IT! According to the text… On page ___, it said… In paragraph ___, the writer stated… In the text it said… I can infer/predict from the section… The author wrote… For example… For instance… From the reading, I know… I know ______________________ because… Based on what I read… This provides proof by… Within the reading, I found… The illustration shows… The fact box/caption/heading said… * Remember, if you use the EXACT words from the selection, then you must use “Quotation Marks.”
