Sport Bike Lift Flying Sheep John Nevin Michelle Rivero Christian Yaeger John Nott Mark Berkobin

The Problem Motorcycle maintenance requires a stable platform Current stands make wheel and suspension work difficult or impossible, and are awkward for one person to use

Prior Art ‘Cruiser’ motorcycle jacks lift from the bottom frame rails. Sport bikes route their exhaust under the bottom of the bike.

Primary Goals: Create a device capable of lifting and supporting a sport bike Mechanism cannot restrict work on the wheels or suspension System can be operated by a single person. Must be affordable and safe

Secondary Design Goals The device should be light and portable Should be adjustable to the widest possible range of motorcycle designs Should be comfortable to use (should not require any significant physical strain) Should allow for quick mounting and dismounting of the motorcycle on the lift

Possible Lifting Points Under Rear Frame Sliders Foot Pegs Under Front

Selected Points: Frame sliders and foot pegs Lifting from the front and rear was eliminated  Limited clearance  Few bikes could support their weight through those points Potential for severe damage  Rotationally unstable when lifted

Possible Lifting Mechanisms “Cruiser” Jack Worm Lift Car Jack Winch or Hydraulics Ramps

Possible Lifting Mechanisms Ramps would be inherently unstable during lifting  Slipping loose, jamming Car jack lacks outside stabilization Internal or hoist lifting would require perfect synchronization  Expense, potential for jamming Worm lifts potential for jamming  Could lead to destabilization Cruiser jack has unmatched stability over entire process  Somewhat bulky, could restrict access

Our Chosen Design: Lifting at the frame sliders and foot pegs from a “cruiser jack” base

Mock Up Issues found in small-scale mock up:  Kickstand clearance  Stability when securing lift points
