Psychology Survey BY NAJA AND AMANDA

Experiment Layout During this experiment we randomly picked twenty-five males and females. We ran a test to see if girls can tell the difference between the smell of lemon and better than boys. Three scents were given to each student: lemon juice, coffee, and lime juice. Each boy and girl smelled the lemon first, then coffee, and lastly lime. The coffee was given in between the smell of the lemon and lime, to clear the smell of the lemon that was given first. Each student was given two chances to guess the smell, then they’re answers were recorded.

Statistical Evidence(Scent A) 80% of girls (22 out of 25) guessed Scent A (lemon) correctly 12% of the girls (3 out of 25) guessed Scent A incorrectly 84% of the boys ( 21 out of 25) guessed Scent A correctly 16% of boys ( 4 out of 25) guessed Scent A incorrectly boys did better than girls by 4%

Statistical Evidence(Scent B) 80% of girls ( 20 out of 25) matched Scent B correctly to coffee 20% of girls (5 out of 25) did not match Scent B correctly to coffee Of the boys, 92% (23 out of 25) matched Scent B to coffee 8% of boys (2 out of 25) did not match Scent B to coffee Boys did 12% better than girls on guessing Scent B

Statistical Evidence (Scent C) 12% of girls (3 out of 25) guessed Scent C (lime) correctly 88% of girls ( 22 out of 25) did not match Scent C with lime 12% of the boys (3 out of 25) correctly matched Scent C with lime 88% of the boys (22 out of 25) incorrectly guessed Scent C Girls and boys scored the same when asked to guess Scent C

Experiment Results After looking at the results of our experiment, we concluded that the hypothesis was wrong. Girls, even though they wear perfumes, they could not detect the smell of lime was not the same as lemon any better than boys. In fact, out of the fifty student we tested twelve percent of them were able to tell the difference between Scent A and Scent C. The reason for this may be due to seasonal colds. The hypothesis could also been wrong if the girls tested did not wear citrus smelling perfumes.The variable that helped six of the students tell the difference was coffee. The coffee is what we used to clear the nose of Scent A, in hopes that it would make a difference in smelling Scent C.
