Sharing Knowledge for Rural Development The ENRAP Experience

What was the situation which ENRAP was designed to improve? Learning within IFAD family was limited - projects unconnected, working in isolation Knowledge not available in shareable form Weak capacity to use ICT tools for sharing – physical, funds, human Lack of appreciation – KS, KM, use of ICT tools

How did we do it? Supporting sharing events Promoting tools & techniques to enhance KS Building capacity Strengthening connectivity

Sharing events National workshops Regional Workshops Exchange visits Improving awareness, Networking, Sharing, Learning

ICT Tools & techniques to enhance KS Websites E-groups ‘School on Air’ Systematization Network building Documentation, Sharing, Networking

Building Capacity Documentation: systematization, digital films Communication: training, e-tools, connectivity Use of ICT tools: GIS Documentation, Sharing, Learning

Strengthening Connectivity Sharing, Networking

How did the network evolve? Common areas of project interest: M&E, MIS, targeting, gender mainstreaming, others Realisation of value of sharing project knowledge Demand for capacity building, sharing opportunities, connectivity support Emergence of networks at national & regional level Improved knowledge sharing

What did we learn ? Demonstrating value of networking helps to build network Effective networks are user-driven Networks help KS to improve project performance Build-in KS in project design to get the most value Need for good solutions to address language diversity

Suggestions for future regional networking programs Start with a few highly interested projects to demonstrate success Involve key stakeholders in network design for ownership & sustainability Systematically research impact of networks on poverty Ensure long term commitment for effectiveness of network Network with Networks!!

Thank you and happy networking!
