Khadasia and Olivia are going shopping for new fall clothes. Khadasia is taking $ to the mall with her. Olivia is taking $ How much are they taking in all? What would I do if the question asked approximately how much money did they take?

Types of Estimation: Front end estimation: 45, ,523.53= 40, ,000 In front end estimation, I keep the first number and put zeros in place of the others.

Round to the nearest tenth: Remember 5 or more, raise your score; 4 or less, let it rest. Example: = If the number to the right of the number in the tenths place is greater than 5, I will round the tenths place up one number. If the number to the right of the number in the tenths place is less than 5, I will keep the number in the tenths place the same.

Round to the nearest whole number: Example: = Look at the number in the tenths place. If it is greater than 5, round the number in the ones place up one. If the number in the tenths place is less than 5, keep the number in the ones place the same. Ignore the decimals.

Estimate using front end estimation: = – 43.98= = =

Estimate by rounding to the nearest whole number: $ $87.09= $ $35.64= $ $34.13= $ $ 36.75=

Estimate to the nearest tenth – = =
