2 Counting by Ten Counting by ten means that there are ten numbers in between each counting number. +10 +10 10 ^ 20 ^ 30 ^ 40 ^ 50… If starting at 0 and counting by 10, each number counted ends in 0.

3 Rounding Numbers Often times, in order to simplify adding and subtracting, or because an exact number is not needed, we round a number to the nearest 10. Meaning, we round to any of the numbers ending in 0. (ex: 10, 20, 30…)

4 A helpful jingle: Five or more, raise the score. Four or less, let it rest. Rounding Numbers

5 Examples: 1212 When rounding to the nearest ten, look at the ones place. 2 is less than 5. Round up to 20 or down to ten? 10 Rounding Numbers

6 Examples: 3535 When rounding to the nearest ten, look at the ones place. If the number in the ones place is 5 or greater, raise the score. Round up to 40 or down to 30? 40 Rounding Numbers

7 Examples: 8787 When rounding to the nearest ten, look at the ones place. If the number in the ones place is 5 or greater, raise the score. 7 is greater than 5 Round up to 90 or down to 80? 90 Rounding Numbers
