3 Finding Part of a Whole Example 1: What is 65% of 245? You can solve a “percent of” problem by writing a proportion. Write cross products Divide each side by 100 Simplify. 65% of 245 is 159.25

4 Finding a Percent Example 2: What percent of 60 is 52? Round to the nearest tenth Write a proportion Write cross products Divide each side by 60 Simplify Round. 52 is approximately 86.7% of 60

5 Finding a whole amount Example 3: 207 is 46% of what number? Write a proportion Write cross products Divide each side by 46 Simplify. 207 is 46% of 450

6 Using Equations to Solve Percent Problems Example 4: What is 85% of 62? Write the percent as a decimal and write an equation. Simplify. 85% of 62 is 52.7

7 Using Equations to Solve Percent Problems Example 5: What percent of 48 is 54? Write the percent as a decimal and write an equation. Divide each side by 54 Simplify Change the decimal to a percent by moving the decimal point to the right 2 places.
