Topic Conservation of Biodiversity

Unit Summary In this unit the students will learn about the number of species and the trend how their population is changing since last few years. Students will know about the causes of biodiversity loss and they will develop knowledge for conservation of biodiversity.

CFQ Essential Questions 1.Is biodiversity necessary for human existence? 2. Do various species have importance for each other? Unit Questions How are humans responsible for biodiversity loss? What is importance of diversity to ecosystem? Content Questions What is habitat loss? How do alien species invasion affect the biodiversity? Distinguish between ex situ and in situ conservation.

Vision for The Unit The students will know the meaning of biodiversity, its importance for the ecosystem. The students will also know about patterns of biodiversity. They will understand the cases of biodiversity and methods to conserve the biodiversity

Project Approaches The students will collect the data about the number of species form the books, journals and internet. The students will collect the data about the number of species form the books, journals and internet. Students will study the trend of change in the number of various species over last five years. Students will present these changes in the form of graphs. Students will study the trend of change in the number of various species over last five years. Students will present these changes in the form of graphs. Students will develop awareness approaches for conservation of biodiversity Students will develop awareness approaches for conservation of biodiversity

Development of 21 st century Skills Students will develop data collection, analysis and interpretative skills. Students will also develop observation and creative skills be devising various ways for creating awareness for biodiversity conservation. Students will share the findings with other students of their class.

ASSESSMENT Students will learn to show the change in the number of species graphically. Students will find locality specific approaches for conservation of biodiversity Students will develop awareness methods for creating awareness in the community.

Essential Feedback Need innovative ways to help students to understand the concept of biodiversity keeping their interest alive and develop locality specific approaches for conserving biodiversity Need help assessing the students’ higher order thinking skills
