What Do We Know? 1. All living things need water to survive. 2. All living things grow, develop and reproduce. 3. Some living things breathe. 4. All living.
Competition  Two major types of interactions between organisms include competition and predation  Competition: the struggle between organisms to survive.
Parts of an Ecosystem 1. Habitat- The place where an organism lives and that provides the things it needs. 2. Biotic factors- The living parts of an ecosystem.
Population – group of individuals of the same species living in the same area, potentially interacting Community – group of populations of different species.
Relationships in the Ecosystem. What are the types of relationships? 1)Predator / Prey 2)Competition 3)Symbiosis A) commensalism B) mutualism C) parasitism.
Lesson 3-How Do Organisms Interact? - Observe how organisms help each other - Describe how organisms compete within an ecosystem - Explain symbiotic relationships.
INTERACTIONS AMONG LIVING THINGS. A characteristic that makes an individual better suited to its environment may eventually become common in that species.

How Do We Relate?. Relationships Many organisms have developed a close relationship with other organisms of different species. These close relationships.

Interactions Among living Things. Natural selection Remember natural selection- individuals better suited for environment will survive and reproduce Adaptations-
Competition – two species share a requirement for a limited resource  reduces fitness of one or both species.

Science Ecology Review Terms Goal: Review the following terms for a vocabulary assessment on Friday.

Organism Definition: An animal

host Definition: the organism that a parasite lives in or on

parasite Definition: The organism that lives in or on another organism and harms it.

Predator Definition: The organism that does the killing in a predation interaction.

Prey Definition: The organism that is killed and eaten in a predation interaction.

Predation Definition: A relationship in which one organism kills another for food.

Parasitism Definition:A relationship in which one organism lives in or on another animal and harms it!!

Mutualism Definition: a relationship between two species (types of animal) in which both species benefit (get something).

Niche Definition: The role of an organism in its habitat (its job).

Competition Definition: The struggle between organisms to survive as they both use the same limited resources.

Natural Selection Definition: The process by which characteristics that help an animal in its environment become more common.

Adaptation Definition: a behavior or physical characteristic that allows an organism to successfully live in its environment.

Symbiosis Definition: a close relationship between two species in which at least on of them benefits (gets something)

Commensalism Definition: a relationship in which one organism benefits (gets something), but the other is not helped or harmed.
