Western Domination

By the end of the 1800’s most of Africa had been taken but America did not take any new territories America establishes the Open Door Policy Creates spheres of influence in China taking away power from the Qing dynasty Their emperor begins to cave and cater to the European changes in culture

Empress Tz’u-hsi (Tshoo Shee) replaces the emperor and creates a group known as the “Society of the Harmonious Fists” later nicknamed the Boxers Boxers would harass people that represented western culture Railroads and factories were destroyed European powers and Americans get involved and remove Tz’u- hsi from power

New emperor Mutsuhito realizes that most countries resisting western ideas were falling fast. Replaces the Tokugawa Shogunate with Meiji Restoration Tokugawa Shogunate had been a feudal society with strict social class Under Mutsuhito Japan industrializes and encourages Western Education but can pick and choose

When a revolution in Korea breaks out Japan and China get involved. The modernized Japan takes Korea and then most of China in the Sino-Japanese war of 1894 Japan controlled Taiwan, Manchuria and parts of China and Korea which gained their independence
