Sunnyside Elementary School & Clayton Elementary School Smyrna School District students and staff are proud to honor our Veterans !

Honoring our Veterans The Smyrna School district has chosen to adopt the community core values of compassion, respect, responsibility, integrity and perseverance. Honoring our Veteran’s each year demonstrates an embodiment of our community core values. These men and women give their time and often risk their lives to protect our country and our freedom. We hold them at high honor for their dedication and devotion to keeping our country safe.

Making a Difference Our BIG IDEA is to reach out to all Veterans and show support and appreciation by honoring in a variety of ways. The goal of this program is to not only pay homage to Veterans, but also greatly inspire students to live out the positive values. The personal connection they make with these great men and women is more powerful than anything they can glean from a textbook. It is our hope that this program will challenge students to serve others with the same responsibility, respect, compassion, perseverance, and integrity that our Veterans have demonstrated through their service and courageous acts.

Our Program Goals We hope to deeply impact the hearts of all our students and community members. Give back to those who protect us. Motivate students to find ways to continue honoring Veteran’s year round. Encourage students go beyond the school walls when honoring our Veterans. Model and teach basic human kindness to all our students through the powerful example of our amazing Veterans.

Writing about Our Veterans

Fourth Grade S.T.E.P Students Our school’s S.T.E.P program did many things for Veteran’s Day. One thing we did was an acrostic poem. Another thing we did was write letters to Veteran’s. Additionally we brought in relatives that were Veteran’s. To conclude, we enjoyed making things for our brave hero's. We are very thankful for our amazing Veteran’s service. Written by: Triston, Christopher, Michael, Kevin and Angelina

Fourth Grade S.T.E.P Students Veteran’s are the core of our country. Veteran’s have fought for our freedom. There are multiple types of military branches, but they all have served for the same purpose: to protect us. This is why we celebrate the Veteran’s each year on Veteran’s Day. We should be thankful for all Veteran’s do and did. This is why Veteran’s are so great. Written by: Vincent, Westen, Aiden, Braeden, and Jesse

Fourth Grade S.T.E.P Students For S.T.E.P we researched Veteran’s Day. We wrote about how we celebrate it and what types of Veteran’s there are. We also colored an acrostic poem of what Veteran’s Day is all about. We celebrate it by hanging flags, taking 5 quiet moments to honor them, and we pray at the tomb of the unknown soldier. Every year we honor Veteran’s to show our gratitude to the people who fought for your freedom. Written by: Caroline, Reaghan, Yasmina, Katelyn, and Ryan

Our Growing plan to Honor our Veterans.

Sunnyside Elementary was proud to honor our Veteran’s On November 9. We asked family members of our students to join us for a breakfast followed by a ceremony to recognize all they have done for our country. SMYRNA MESSENGER

We hope to give back to our community and Veteran’s through service and mission work that supports our Smyrna School District’s core values. Encourage our students to visit and perform at area Veteran groups. Give Veteran’s a breakfast where they can be honored. Say “Thank you” to Veteran’s to show your appreciation. Make cards and packages for the men and women serving our country. Canned food drives that support retired Veterans. Allow students to create artwork that conveys the importance of honoring our Veterans.

Thank you for your time! Smyrna School District is proud to honor our Veteran’s!
