Veterans Day A Celebration of Freedom

2 What is Veterans Day? A day to honor all Veterans past and current, fallen and living. It began as Armistice November 11th, 1919, when WWI ended by the signing a cease-fire agreement (an armistice). In 1954 the day was renamed Veterans Day to honor all veterans of U.S. wars.

3 What do Americans do for Veterans Day?
We give thanks to those who fought for our freedom and peace. We take a moment to reflect on the meaning of our freedom. We honor veterans with parades, and ceremonies. We thank a veteran. We hold a solemn moment of silence in honor of veterans.

4 We give thanks to those who fought for our freedom.

5 Reflect on the meaning of freedom.
We have the freedom to express ourselves and speak out against injustices. We have the freedom to chose our religious beliefs. We have the freedom to pursue happiness. We have the freedom to be ourselves.

6 We honor veterans. Today we will honor our veterans by watching a tribute to our symbol of freedom. Our American Flag: Military Flag Ceremony Salute to veterans Ragged Old Flag Proud to be an American

7 We Thank a Veteran. How many of you know a veteran to thank?
Some of you will serve your country in the American Armed Forces. Think of how you would feel to get a simple “thank you”. Thank You!

8 A moment of silence.. Use this time to reflect on your freedom and the men and women who have protected your freedom through their service.
