Principles of the Constitution 8.28 Describe the significance of the Magna Carta, the English Bill of Rights, and the Mayflower Compact in relation to the development of government in America. Principles of the Constitution 1.Popular Sovereignty the government gets its authority from the people 2.Limited Government the government has only the powers that the Constitution gives it. 3.Separation of Powers - powers divided into three branches - each with its own duties 4.Checks and Balance – each branch of government has the power to check, or limit, the actions of the other two.
