Current Minimum Requirements for Teaching Health Education 24 Semester Hours in the Discipline

I. Required Health Education Core component – totaling semester hours  One course from each of the following areas: Theories and concepts of health Programs in School Health Programs in Community Health Curriculum Development and Evaluation in Health Education

II. Health Education Content Component Totaling hours A. Required: One course shall be required from each of the following: 1. Human Sexuality or Sex Education 2. Drug/Chemical Use and Abuse

B. Elective: At least two courses shall be taken from the following: 1. Mental/Emotional Health 2. Environmental Health 3. Disease Prevention and Control 4. Nutrition and Dietary Patterns 5. Consumer Health 6. Safety and Injury Control 7. Personal Health Practices
