Presentation transcript:

To define “theology of the body” To explain how we are connected to God through our bodies To evaluate what our body tells us about who we are meant to be What has God, who is a spirit, got to do with our bodies? Think of as many things as you can.

We are made in God’s image. The way we are physically can reflect something of God’s personality eg thinking, self-giving, sociable. Jesus resurrected with a human body – so in our human bodies, we could too. We learn about and experience God’s love through our ears, minds, hearts – our bodies. We worship God through our bodies: speech, movement, hearts. Theology of the Body – the study of what God meant our bodies to be for Pope John Paul II’s book “The Theology of the Body” shows there is an important connection between God and our bodies. Our bodies are meant to reflects God’s own life-giving love. God became a human body in Jesus: human bodies are forever “part” of God Our bodies are meant to reflect God’s life-giving love. 1.Explain what Theology of the Body means 2.Mindmap the ways God is connected to our human bodies using the speech bubbles **how important do you think it is, to recognise what your body is like, and use it in the way God meant us to?

God writes what His plan is for our life, by the way He made our bodies to be. 1.Write the subtitle 2.Draw a picture of the human body & label what different parts of your body can tell you about how God wants you to live your life **Humans can “override” what their bodies are “meant for” eg live under oceans in submarines, get extreme kinds of body piercing, have gay sex. Do you think we should respect the way God made our bodies, or is it ok to do anything we want with them? LEGS/ UPRIGHT POSTURE: I am meant to... HANDS: I am meant to... MIND: I am meant to... SPEECH: I am meant to... SENSES: I am meant to use my senses by.. SEXUAL ORGANS: I am meant to...

God writes what His plan is for our life, by the way He made our bodies to be. I am meant to walk upright, and live on dry land I am meant to use my hands for making things I am meant to use my intelligence, to solve problems, be creative I am meant to communicate with others, and live in groups I am meant to enjoy my senses: play music, cook foods, admire beauty I am meant to be with someone of the opposite sex & be a parent

God’s plan for us, is written in the way that we are made. Your body is different from your neighbour’s. What are YOU, specifically, good for? Tell your partner what sort of “strengths” you have by the way you are made? What job could this make you suitable for? Eg chef – great sense of taste, creative ideas… 1.Name some jobs you might like to do in future. 2.Make a list of things about your body that would make this a possibility. (you are unlikely to be a musician if you are tone deaf..) **Could we be happy if we just do whatever we decide to, ignoring what we are made for/ suitable for?

Do we need to consider the way we are made in order to be happy?

HW Write a letter to a Job Centre to help you find the most suitable job. – Explain what your body is like - (strong, fast, energetic, clumsy, slow-moving etc) – Explain what your mind id like (creative, intelligent, good with words, good sense of rhythm..) – Conclude: explain what sort of job these things would make you suitable for & why.

I am fearfully & wonderfully made… Write a prayer to God thanking him for the wonderful way He made you – to do all sorts of things, and thus giving you a unique plan for your life... What do you think “fearfully” means in this context?
