DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE Unit #3 – American Revolution

Declaration of Independence (DOI)  Primary Source: a document or physical object which was written or created during the time under study. Examples – Magna Carta, DOI, US Constitution, etc.  Secondary Source: are documents written after an event has occurred, providing secondhand accounts of that event, person or topic. Examples – History books, biographies, etc.

Declaration of Independence  Written by Thomas Jefferson  Helped by John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and 2 others  Signed by all the delegates of the 2 nd Continental Congress (Unanimous) and presented to the states (colonies)  Written and references King George III  All those who signed the DOI were considered traitors to Great Britain which was punishable by death
