2. Things to Remember:
Second Continental Congress: Meeting of delegates in Philadelphia to decide how to react to fighting at Lexington and Concord.
Continental Army: created by the 2nd Continental Congress to defend the colonies from Britain, commanded by George Washington.
Common Sense: Pamphlet written by Thomas Paine that criticized monarchies and convinced many people of the need to breakaway from Britain.

4. Declaring Independence: 8.23
2nd Continental Congress lead by John Hancock created a committee to write a document declaring the colonies independence. The committee was made up of John Adams, Ben Franklin, Robert Livingston, Roger Sherman, and Thomas Jefferson.
