Interview Q: Has anyone become conscious during a procedure and if so what is the first protocol that the staff will have to implement? A: There was a young man who had just been shot and it was a life or death situation so I gave him the anesthesia right then and there in order to save his life. There wasn’t a protocol. Good news is that he survived but during the procedure the young man could hear even when unconscious but only had a little pain. Q: What urged you to become an Anesthesiologist? A: When I was in college I knew I wanted to be a doctor but I didn’t know what kind of doctor I wanted to be. I actually volunteered at the hospital as an orderly and became really influenced by the hospital setting. Q: What is the most interesting thing about your job? A: People think that being an anesthesiologist is boring, but really I’m never bored. I love seeing people go to sleep and wake up because it’s fascinating and such a mystery to how it all works out. This isn’t a boring job! Dr. Mark Isaacson, MD Monterey Peninsula Anesthesia
